For as long as we can remember, adoption and fostering have always been part of the conversation in our home. Josh and I have talked about opening our family to children who needed love, support, and a place to belong. We always imagined that day would come sometime in the future. We prayed about it, dreamed about it, and trusted that God would make the timing clear.
We just never imagined that the child God would bring into our family would come through a classroom.
He first came into our lives as one of Sarah’s students. At first, he was a little timid and quiet. He was the student who took time to open up, the one who needed to know he was safe before letting people see who he really was. But as we got to know him, we quickly discovered there was so much more beneath the surface.
Behind that shy smile was an incredible personality. He was funny, caring, full of energy, and had a way of bringing joy into the room. The more he opened up, the more we saw the amazing young man God created him to be. Before we knew it, he was no longer just a student sitting in a classroom he became someone we loved deeply.
Through conversations, shared experiences, and simply showing up for him, we watched trust grow. We watched him begin to believe that he was valued, supported, and cared for. We had the privilege of seeing pieces of his heart that not everyone gets to see, and it became impossible not to love him.
Then, due to circumstances outside of his control, he found himself in need of something every child deserves: a safe home, a family, and people who would choose him every single day.
And in that moment, God reminded us of the prayers we had prayed years before.
The opportunity in front of us was not what we expected, but it was exactly where God was leading us. What we thought would happen someday became something God was asking us to step into now.
Today, we have custody of him, but our heart is to make that commitment official through adoption. We want him to know that he is not temporary. He is not just someone we are helping through a season. He is our family.
This journey has already been filled with so many moments we will treasure forever.
We have loved cheering him on at every soccer practice and every soccer game, celebrating his hard work, and watching him grow in confidence. We have loved the simple moments just as much the ice cream dates, the countless FIFA games, the laughter around our home, and the quiet moments where we have been able to slow down and simply enjoy being together as a family.
Those moments may seem small, but they have been some of the sweetest reminders that family is built in the everyday moments. It is built through showing up, making memories, and choosing each other over and over again.
We cannot wait to continue walking alongside him, cheering him on, and seeing all that God has planned for his future. We believe there are incredible things ahead for him, and we are honored that we get to be there for the journey.
The adoption process is a beautiful one, but it also comes with significant financial expenses. As we take this step toward making our family official, we are asking our community to come alongside us. Your prayers, encouragement, and support mean more than we can express.
Every donation helps bring us closer to completing this adoption and giving him the security of knowing, without a doubt, that he has a family who chose him and will continue choosing him.
We believe God writes stories far better than we ever could. Looking back, we can see His hand in every moment from the classroom where we met him, the relationship that grew, and the path that brought him home.
